Case Study: Enze Medical Group

Breaking down information silos with Odin Engine

Enze Medical Group

The Enze Medical Group established in 1901, comprises of several hospitals located in the Zhejiang Province of China – Taizhou Hospital of Zhejiang Province, Taizhou Central Hospital, Luqiao Hospital, Enze Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital and Enze Hospital which is currently under construction.

The group employ more than 6,000 staff, providing 3,000 beds and annually provide more than 4 million outpatient visits and over 135,000 discharged hospital visits.

Odin Health partner B-soft has worked with the Enze Medical Group to deliver an integrated platform to break down information silos (including 25 large systems and a large number of small systems).

The Odin Health engine has allowed the connection of hospitals within the Enze Group to provide integration of these systems and a number of external platforms such as quality control, reporting, and an appointment booking system.

The connection of these systems lays a solid foundation for continuing the Enze Group’s digital transformation.

Within each of the four hospitals that make up the Enze Medical Group, there are hundreds of integration projects that will eventually need to be completed, to allow access from any one of more than a thousand terminals across each of the hospital sites.

A complicated technical architecture connects the Odin Engine to each hospitals HIS, EMR, and LIS as well as an external quality control platform, supply chain and a number of other related systems.

The Odin solution offers a number of benefits including:

  • •   High Availability (through load balancing and clustering).
  • •   Lower TCO (operating costs estimated to be less than 20 hours per year per integration project).
  • •   High Performance (millions of data exchanges and only millisecond delays).
  • •   Open-API connectivity (integration of third party systems for reporting and monitoring).
  • •   Ease of use (GUI allows fine tuning and adjustments to be made quickly and efficiently).

Taizhou Hospital’s Head of Information Systems says “The Odin Engine helps our medical information personnel to realise the efficient and fast exchange of patient data between the various systems both inside and outside the hospital. Odin Health provides very professional technical support, and has even extended the product to support new functionality that has greatly improved our experience”.

Since the implementation, the Odin Engine has performed well. To date, 60% of the business processes within the organisation (350 integration projects) have been completed. Over 1,000 terminal connections are used connecting all four hospital sites with the solution processing over 4 million messages per day.

The Odin solution helps the hospital respond quickly to changing needs and in particular helped with the fight against Coronavirus. An integration project that would have taken 2 or 3 days to complete was able to completed by the Hospital’s IT staff in less than an hour - all without the need for support from partner B-soft or Odin Health.

B-Soft’s Project Manager says “The deployment of the Odin Engine is very stable. The unified configuration and management interface allows us to quickly identify problems if they arise. The clustered deployment provides a good disaster recovery function, improves the efficiency of the hospitals IT staff and greatly reduces operational and support costs”.
