Case Study: Anhui Provincial Hospital

Supporting interoperability and real-time access.

Anhui Provincial Hospital

The Anhui Provincial Hospital provides medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, health care, rehabilitation and first-aid. With 5,668 beds, the hospital has 61 clinical medical departments and more than 7,000 employees.

In 2020, Odin Partner Anhui Yunsufu Network Technology Co., Ltd. was tasked with implementing a new financial middleware platform. The project involved the integration of equipment, systems and data in the hospital, allowing interoperability and real-time access to the provincial financial platform.

Unlike other integration projects which focus on the integration of medical data, this project involved the hospital’s financial data.

Medical information is characterised as having high-speed generation, low frequency of access, long storage time and high-reliability requirements. In contrast, financial information places emphasis on the security and authenticity of data, as well as supporting reliable, real-time access.

The Odin Engine was selected to provide interoperability between self-service machines, online apps and the hospital ERP platform.

The solution provides the following functions:

  • •   Data exchange in real-time - via Odin’s ESB & ETL capability, designed to handle the large amounts of data that are synchronously exchanged.
  • •   Load balancing and other technologies - to improve the request response speed, ensuring only millisecond delays to meet the needs of financial data.
  • •   Data security - providing audit trail, self-repair and fault-tolerant isolation mechanisms. Support required encryption standards as well as HTTPS, SSL/TLS and other security certifications.
  • •   Data verification & traceability - provide logging capability to query and verify daily financial data.

The Odin Engine middleware connects a number of systems including the hospitals self-service kiosks, ERP system, terminals and other financial systems.

The project has delivered a number of significant milestones including:

  • •   The province’s first electronic medical bill for both outpatient and hospital patients.
  • •   The province’s first self-service hospital payment kiosk providing a thermal printed receipt.
  • •   China’s first electronic receipt for hospitalization advance payment using blockchain technology.

"Once deployed, the Odin Engine's support for service orchestration makes the connectivity and interoperability of business systems easy. The functionality provided such as HTTP, web services, routing, filtering and JSON and XML format conversion are powerful. This combined with the graphical UI greatly reduces implementation effort." – Project Manager, Anhui Yunsufu Network Technology Co. Ltd.
